Since 2004 when D. Barker & Son was established by Liz and Damon Barker, providing our customers with outstanding service has been the cornerstone of our business. We are proud to be a family owned, traditional independent jeweller and we bring those caring family values with us to work every day. We like to spend time with our customers and we like to do all we can to exceed our customers’ expectations. To go the ‘extra mile’ is the norm at D. Barker & Son. In a world where increasingly people have less time for each other you can rest assured that we will have time for you.
Over the years we have come to specialise in antique and pre-owned jewellery with a wide range of individual items sourced from all over the country. Whether you are a collector or a lover of beautiful things made to the exacting standards of yesteryear, you are sure to find that special item at D. Barker & Son. As a taster, some of the unique pieces offered for sale are featured on this website – we welcome enquiries so if you have a specific request please contact us and we will do all that we can to assist you.
Similarly we would love to hear from you if you need advice on the repair to an item of jewellery, a treasured watch or a much valued clock. We will give you honest, professional advice and can undertake the most basic of repairs to complex restoration work. In the current climate of market volatility we are busy with valuations of all types; if you need an up to date valuation please do get in touch and we can discuss your needs. All our valuation work is carried out on the premises by our Registered Valuer and Fellow of The National Association of Goldsmiths Peter Jackson.
Damon has worked in the jewellery industry for 28 years and has a wealth of experience in all aspects of the trade. He underwent formal training at ‘Stoodley & Son’ in Alton attaining the National Association of Goldsmith’s Retail Jeweller’s Diploma in 1988 and became a Fellow of The Gemmological Association in 1990. After a short spell in Australia, Damon returned in 1991 to manage the Alresford branch of ‘Stoodley and Son’ specialising in antique jewellery and silver. He has been in Alresford ever since and has become a fixture in the town.
Liz comes from a retailing background and worked for Body Shop for many years before taking time out to raise a family. She joined Damon when together they started ‘D. Barker & Son’ in 2004. Liz was keen to learn about the trade and studied with the National Association of Goldsmiths.
With the boys growing fast D. Barker & Son really is a family affair as both Jim and Alex often work with their parents at the weekend and during school holidays.
